Classification and Working Principle of Glass Plate Level Gauge

Definition of Glass Plate Level Gauge

The glass plate liquid level gauge is an instrument that directly displays the liquid level. It is widely used for liquid level observation in storage tanks and other vessels during industrial production.

Safety Structure and Basic Characteristics

Glass Plate Level GaugeA needle valve is installed at each end of the glass plate level gauge. In the event of accidental glass breakage, the needle valves automatically close under container pressure, preventing the process medium from leaking out.

The glass plate level gauge provides a clear view of the liquid level in sealed containers. It features a simple structure, easy operation, reliable performance, and long service life. The measured medium must not corrode steel components, asbestos paper, or graphite sealing rings.

General Applications of Glass Plate Level Gauge

Glass plate level gauges are used to indicate liquid levels in tanks, towers, and various industrial containers.

Measurement Principles: Translucent and Reflective Types

Glass plate level gauges operate based on two optical principles: light transmission and light reflection. Their application ranges are as follows:

  • Translucent glass plate level gauge: Suitable for colored or opaque liquids.

  • Reflective glass plate level gauge: Used for clear and transparent liquids.

Classification by Operating Temperature

Based on operating temperature, glass plate level gauges are divided into ordinary types and high-temperature types.

Ordinary Type

The ordinary glass plate level gauge is used when the working pressure is PN ≤ 6.4 MPa and the medium temperature does not exceed 250 ℃.

High-Temperature Types

High-temperature glass plate level gauges are further classified into three categories:

  • High-temperature, low-pressure

  • High-temperature, medium-pressure

  • High-temperature, high-pressure

Application Range of High-Temperature Glass Plate Level Gauges

High-Temperature, Low-Pressure Type

Suitable for working pressures up to PN 4.0 MPa, with measured medium temperatures above 250 ℃ and up to 400 ℃.

High-Temperature, Medium-Pressure Type

Designed for pressures up to PN 6.4 MPa, applicable to media temperatures above 250 ℃ and up to 400 ℃.

High-Temperature, High-Pressure Type

Applicable for pressures up to PN 25.0 MPa, suitable for measured media temperatures above 250 ℃ and up to 400 ℃.

Classification by Pressure Rating

According to pressure rating, glass plate liquid level gauges are classified into:

  • Low-pressure type

  • Medium-pressure type

  • High-pressure type

Application Range by Pressure Level

Low-Pressure Glass Plate Level Gauge

Used for working pressures up to PN 4.0 MPa, suitable for media temperatures up to 250 ℃.

Medium-Pressure Glass Plate Level Gauge

Used when working pressure is PN ≤ 6.4 MPa, suitable for measured media temperatures up to 250 ℃.

High-Pressure Glass Plate Level Gauge

Designed for pressures up to PN 25.0 MPa, applicable for measured media temperatures up to 250 ℃.
